At the time of this writing, the Grand Victoria poker room has been open around 3 months. They currently have 6 tables spreading only Hold 'Em. The floor men tell me that they are willing to deal $5/10 limit but have had few takers. Instead most days see 3 tables of $2/5 NL and 3 tables of $1/2 NL. Keep in mind that they have a buy-in limit of $300 for $2/5 and $200 for $1/2. The staff say that the ultimate plan is for 9 tables. Since the place opened, the tables have been pretty much full non-stop with adequate waiting lists. Don't be fooled by the waiting lists, they have lots of names of people on them that aren't there. I've gone from 8th or 11th on the list to a seat in one step. Nicely, you can call ahead at 847-531-7753 to get on the list as long as you're 30 minutes or closer. If you ask, they will even take your number and send a text-message when your seat is open (so you can enjoy some craps while you wait). So far, weekends will guarantee a long-ish wait for a seat--so be sure to call ahead on Fridays and Saturdays. As far as the games are concerned, they are okay. The $2/5 tables are populated with lots of regulars. I've been there 5 times and I already recognize half of the cast of characters (many of which know each other well from their days grinding together at Hollywood in Aurora). It is tough to sit down with the regulars at 9 PM with $300 in a $2/5 game when the average stack at the table is $1200--and they will be since most players have been there all day. The dealers still have a ways to go and the floor people (except Dave) are pretty poor. They are all learning and it is getting better, but prepare for some slow play. Don't bring your iPod, gum or a hoodie as these aren't allowed at the table--though they will bring a sandwich to the table. Oh, and don't forget to account for the $8 rake. That said, if you live close and want to play live, this is the place. If you're halfway between Hammond and here, I'd recommend Hammond.
WOW! I made my first trip th The River Poker Room in Milford last Sunday and I was very surprised at what I found. This is an AMAZING place to play poker! The tables are the nicest tables of any poker room I've been to in this state! Staff is friendly and do a good job of keeping things going. Lots of choices to play. Table games are run nicely and fun. Food was good and fairly priced. I will definitely go back to this room and it is an hour commute to get there for me.
Has been totally renovated including the rooms. They even have a suite w/ a shower that fits 12 people in it. The FOOD is better than ANY other CA cardroom i've been in.... blows Pechanga's card room food away!!! The service and employees are above and beyond friendly. You wont get friendlier service anywhere. The live action is great and their tournaments are FUN and they have WSOP satellites 3 days a week. I suggest if you get the chance to check it out... don't judge the outside by the great experience you'll have inside. LAKE ELSINORE ROCKS!!
Winners has 2 games, both used primarily for Texas Hold'em. They offer a tournamant every night, usually a $25+5 buy-in with a $5.00 add-on in the first hour. The live game is a $1-$2 No Limit game with a minimum buy in of $20.00. I've watched the play on the live game and there is definitely a few fish in the sea.
I was there in late April 2009. The room was tucked away in the back of the casino and therefore was quiet and private. I was looking for a 2/5NL table and they were full, so I put my name on a list and signed up for the 5/5NL game that was going as well.(The 1/2NL games were in another part of the casino, which I found rather refreshing.) A 5/5NL was the first seat that came available so I sat at that table and didn't regret it for a moment. The play was very soft with lots of action. The players all seemed to be strangers, which is not my usual experience in small casinos. This contributed to the games softness I think. The dealers were pleasant and competent, but the floor staff seemed very frazzled and lost. They were pleasant though despite their ineptness. I would definitely return to this room the next time I travel to Canada. The exchange rate was very favorable while I was there so that helped too perhaps.
